Erosion

by P.A.Levy

On the mattrass debris
of crumbling cliffs,
we sat precariously in silence
throwing pebbles into waves.
Hungry waves
to swallow everything we offered them.

In silhouette
you could have been a super-heroine,
balancing on a groyne
skirt billowing
in a south westerly,
but with the sun on your face
your smile sunk without a trace
I knew
we had finally ran out of destiny.

We broke up on the breakers.
A good-bye kiss
was the best we could salvage.
